Data Sharing Policy

Authors are encouraged to share or make available any data and materials supporting the results or analyses presented in their paper. However, data shall only be shared if it is ethically appropriate and does not violate privacy, security, or human subject protection.

Data Sharing Guidelines

  • Depositing Data: Authors should deposit data in a recognized repository that assigns a persistent digital identifier (e.g., DOI) and ensures long-term preservation.
  • Data Availability Statement (DAS): Authors should provide a DAS detailing where data associated with the paper can be found and how it can be accessed. The DAS should be included within the manuscript before the 'References' section. If data cannot be made open, authors must explain why.
  • Data Citation: The Journal of Nutrition and Dietetics recognizes data as citable research products. Authors should cite datasets in the body of the article and include a corresponding reference in the reference list.
  • Peer Review: Authors are responsible for ensuring the accuracy and validity of their data. Peer reviewers and editors will assess the data availability statement and whether authors have complied with the journal's data-sharing policy.

Exemptions

  • Some data may not be shared due to legal or ethical reasons, including issues related to author consent, third-party rights, institutional or national regulations, or the nature of the data collected. In such cases, authors must inform the editors at the time of submission.
  • Editors may grant exceptions to data-sharing requirements if authors provide a valid explanation for restricting access. Authors should, where possible, outline the steps others must follow to request access to the data.
  • If data cannot be made publicly available, authors must include a statement in the manuscript explaining the restriction and the reasons for not sharing the data.
